How to check system version in RedHat, Solaris and HP-UX

To get version of RedHat on your server you need to check file /etc/redhat-release :

cat /etc/redhat-release

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 8 )

With Solaris you can use following command:

uname -r


and if you want more detailed information check file /etc/release :

cat /etc/release

On HP-UX run command:

uname -r


and if you  want information about media kit your system was installed from use:

swlist -l bundle QPKBASE

# Initializing…
# Contacting target “test”…
# Target:  test:/
